Hard Card Scanning
Turn traditional FD-258 ink fingerprint cards into an electronic submission, without starting over or waiting on the mail.
Ideal for applicants who live outside California, traveling healthcare workers, caregivers, and anyone who needs a California or Florida license, job or certification and has already been fingerprinted on cards.
How hard card scanning works
- 1Get your prints rolled
Have your fingerprints taken on two separate FD-258 ink cards at a provider near you, or with us in Oakland or at your location.
- 2Mail your packet
Send the cards and the required documents to our Oakland office. Call or email first so we can confirm the current instructions for your agency.
- 3We scan and submit
We digitize the cards and transmit them electronically to the California DOJ and, where required, the FBI, or to Florida FDLE where eligible.
- 4Results go to the agency
Results are delivered the same way as a standard Live Scan: directly to the authorized requesting agency.

What to send
- Two unique FD-258 cards, each freshly rolled (not copies)
- Request for Live Scan Service (BCIA 8016) from the agency requesting your check
- Copy of your valid government photo ID, front and back
- Written authorization for us to scan and submit on your behalf
- Payment, and the requesting agency details (ORI number and reason for fingerprinting)
Always confirm your requesting agency's exact requirements before mailing.
